SJW Bags London Founder Alev Ozturk  '' Let it out! ''

SJW Bags London Founder Alev Ozturk '' A good idea becomes a new creation when you let it out ! ''

Moving to London from Istanbul about 10 years ago I enjoyed for a while what London could offer. Apart from cultural activities I started to run and joined half marathons, had
country walks, met a lot of friends in St John's Wood.

Then I discovered my passion: SJW Bags London. At the beginning I was creating for myself and then receiving encouragement from my friends I started a limited-edition bag collection with the motto:

Bags are like friends, we can never have too many".

Celebrating the diverse and stylish area that had so warmly welcomed my family to London, the SJW label is named after St John’s Wood.

My designs usually have an ethnic touch either with an artisan work or sophisticated textiles, with unique patterns or handwork, sustainable fabrics like Ikats...They reflect the art of a British designer with Ottoman heritage. We offer a wide variety of multi-functional styles and shapes, with a series of pop-ups and online stores bringing SJW Bags to a wider audience across the world.

Eager to preserve traditional methods and skills we work with a small team of artisans from the traditional ikat weavers of Fergana Valley in Central Asia to the skilled local bag makers in Istanbul, blending hand-woven silks with ethically sourced premium leather, for a sustainable zero waste, season-less,handmade bag collection that offers style and durability while caring for environment.

Through exclusive events, boutiques and pop ups SJW Bags reached discerning ladies who appreciate independent designers and unique designs with a story. SJW Bond Bag, sleek and sophisticated like another famously named Bond, this croc embossed leather bag with gleaming gold monogram made its debut on London’s fashionable Bond Street, home for fashion houses like Hermes, Louis Vuitton and Fenwick.

Originally a banker with over 25 years of experience, I now strive to combine expert bag-making and hand crafting traditions from my home country with practical and stylish designs perfect for busy modern lifestyles.
